Flowers for Algernon: Answer question 9.

Question 9 (Connect): Re-read the last few lines in Part 1. What do you think about people who dislike others who are different from them?

Answer:
I think people have their own right to think about others. Depend on which person they are thinking about, their perspective may change. Different EI levels, different environment, different education, ..., cost different point of view. To me, I really don't discriminate people. But in somehow, you still feel that they are not worth for you to respect. Trying to keep that thinking away and think in a little bit positive and you'll see they are worth it. People who dislike others who are different from them because they think others are weird. Not being normal, smarter, more stupid, able to do thing that others can't, ... are consider as WEIRD. In Flower for Algernon, Charlie has been fool by his friends. He is too blind to see that people are making jokes of him. With the IQ at 68, he thinks that everyone are good. There is a part in the story that Ms. Kinnian says to Charlie that people are not usually good like what he think they are. By reading Charlie's progress report, Ms. Kinnian finds out that charlie is to poor so she has something in her eyes and runs to the bathroom. I don't think that I'm always right but pretty much of us all, we think that we are right because we do right things most of the time. I might think that it is unfair to treat weird people like Charlie as that way but others might think in the oposite way. And so, there is no right or wrong answer about that. After all, it's just my opinion.

  1. You're right Tien, opinions often change and there is not always a right or wrong answer. You might think someone is strange today but change your mind about them tomorrow. I really like the part about being positive. I think that a positive attitude helps us to see the good in people.

  2. I agree with you, Tien. You did the same question with me so maybe I can understand you more. At the last, you said "Pretty much of us all". At the present society, that's right, some people don't really about the intelligence. If you have intelligence and beauty it would be fabulous :)

  3. I think you're right. Everybody is unique so they must be different from each other. From the point of view of people that are bullied is different from the bullier.
